Fernando Alonso managed to finish the Miami Grand Prix, but ended up near the bottom of the standings.
The start of the Formula 1 season for Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin has fallen far short of the expectations set by their promising performance the previous year. What was anticipated as a consolidation of the team’s position near the top of the grid has turned into a true ordeal in the early Grands Prix of the calendar.
Performance issues, a lack of consistency, and questionable strategic decisions have marked the first races. From the very first qualifying sessions, the car showed clear shortcomings in raw pace compared to its direct rivals. Alonso, known for getting the most out of any machine, has been forced to fight harder than expected for lower positions, with no real podium opportunities. Tire degradation and a lack of technical evolution relative to other teams have left the Spaniard in an uncomfortable spot, far from the spotlight.
On the positive side, Alonso did finish the Miami GP. While the result in the standings remains far from what Aston Martin’s management had planned, the Spaniard noted some improvements. “We have made clear progress in reliability, and now our focus is on performance. We need to keep working and be patient as a team,” Alonso said.
