The Tampa Bay Rays, riding an impressive hot streak, will look to secure their second series victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in a week on Tuesday night.
The Rays opened the three-game set with an 8-5 win on Monday, despite a career-best five RBIs and two home runs from Toronto’s Andres Gimenez. Tampa Bay previously swept a three-game series against the Blue Jays from May 4-6 in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Currently leading the American League East, the Rays boast a 19-3 record against AL opponents and a 9-1 mark within the division. They hold the second-best overall record in the majors, trailing only the Atlanta Braves.
“We’ve had a lot of fun on the baseball field,” said Rays left-hander Shane McClanahan. “Obviously, playoffs are the goal. We are a quarter of the way through the season. We’re not worried about that. We’re worried about today and tomorrow, and you focus on that stuff and it’ll all take care of itself.”
McClanahan (4-2, 2.60 ERA) is scheduled to start Tuesday. He owns a 5-2 record and a 2.16 ERA in nine career starts against Toronto, including a win last Wednesday when he pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
