Milwaukee Bucks co-owner Jimmy Haslam stated on Wednesday that the organization aims to resolve Giannis Antetokounmpo’s status within the next six to seven weeks, ideally before the upcoming NBA draft in June.

“Over the next month and a half or so, we will determine whether Giannis commits to a maximum contract extension with us or decides to continue his career elsewhere,” Haslam explained. “Jon, Taylor, Wes, and I will make that decision, fully aware of its significance.”

The Bucks have the option to trade up to three first-round picks and three pick swaps this offseason if they choose to aggressively build around Antetokounmpo. However, Haslam acknowledged the need to prepare for the two-time MVP’s potential departure.

“If Giannis plays for another team, we must accumulate as many assets as possible,” Haslam said. “That responsibility falls on Jon. If he stays, our roster construction will be different.”

Antetokounmpo, 31, has consistently expressed his desire to compete for championships. Milwaukee finished the season with a 32-50 record and missed the playoffs for the first time in nine years.

The Bucks can offer Antetokounmpo a four-year, $275 million extension in October. If he declines, he could become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
