In a major squad overhaul, VfL Bochum will say goodbye to eleven players during their final home match of the season against Hannover 96 on Saturday (1:00 PM local time, ticket info below). The contracts of captain Matus Bero (30), second-longest-serving professional Erhan Masovic (27), Noah Loosli (29), Marcel Sobottka (32), and Romario Rösch (26) will not be extended.
Additionally, loan players Francis Onyeka (19), Farid Alfa-Ruprecht (20, both from Leverkusen), Kjell Wätjen (20, Borussia Dortmund), Callum Marshall (21, West Ham), and Leandro Morgalla (21, Salzburg) will return to their parent clubs. The purchase option for Morgalla will not be exercised. Kevin Vogt (34), as announced earlier, is ending his career.
However, doors remain open for defender Loosli and striker Marshall. According to reports from WAZ, negotiations with Loosli have been ongoing for months, and both sides could envision further collaboration. Loosli has received several offers from Germany and Switzerland but would only stay at Bochum as a regular starter. The club is waiting to see what opportunities arise in the transfer market.
As for Marshall, who has contributed four goals/assists in 15 games since January, Bochum would like to keep him. However, a million-euro transfer fee is not feasible, leaving the ball in West Ham’s court. A further loan deal is considered a realistic option for VfL.
